K Scholar Graduate, Silvi Shah, MD, Publishes in Journal of the American Heart Association

K Scholar Program graduate, Silvi Shah, MD, associate professor in the UC Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, recently published an article in the Journal of the American Heart Association titled, “Sex Differences in Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients With Kidney Failure”. Results from the study found that among patients undergoing dialysis, women have a higher risk of cardiovascular events of heart failure and stroke than men. Women have a lower adjusted risk of cardiovascular mortality and all‐cause mortality.


This study is funded by Dr. Shah's K23 Career Development Award from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute.
